Gaula water level report 30 May.

Last night I was in Gaula to take pictures for this report, I drove through several places and I could see anglers all over the place on the River. A couple of places I saw the fire burning while the fishermen sat and enjoyed watching river. It was green and beautiful in Gauldalen, and best of all Gaula had in relation to water level, "silk perform" start of the season. Many will have a higher water level than it was yesterday (200 cubic meters), but whether it will be slightly higher or lower, it looks like that we get good conditions in the first period.

It has been extremely interesting to follow developments in water levels since the last report was written 25 May. And it looks much better now in terms of salmon above the falls than it did earlier in May. For after the 25th May the river dropped down to about 153 cubic meters and remained under 180 cubic meters until the 27 - 28 May. Therefore, this is a period I would think that the salmon could move up the waterfall gorge, also because the river was somewhat warmer now at last report. Then it slowly rose again to just over 200 cubic meters and stayed there for about one day, it was the largest about 205 cubic meters during the 29 May at 00:30. Then it fell again slowly to below 180 cubic meters, and the river is the time of writing 176 cubic meters. The river is somewhat warmer now, so it may well be that the salmon in those days took a trip further up the valley. It is always very difficult to say this exactly, and I have great respect for not putting out false rumors. But personally I think that the salmon could go up in part of this period.

I stopped in the Gaulfossen and sat around for 30 minutes, I could see a lot of salmon come up on the edge there. What was a bit special, was that I mostly saw salmon in the mid-size. I so really only 1 pc. large salmon. This is normally a bit too early to mid salmon. But it's a great signal that we might get a year of medium salmon in the river this season anyway - It would be very interesting then!

After these observations, I just had to tie a few flies before I went to bed, I felt really needed to fill the fly box with a pair of Yellow White Wing tubes extra. Would have been difficult to sleep without a ride in the "hobby room pool" after these experiences, yes. I also talked with some people who have been a few trips to different places in Gaula, and many can tell that they have seen salmon. So this looks very good.

I would like to wish everyone a great season, and this is the last water report for this spring. Keep up with my fishing diary for the rest of the season. There I will keep you updated on the development of fishing in Gaula, and write about events from my own fishing.

Thight lines.
